Abstract of Experience
In 1980, at the age of 37 and with a file cabinet full of scholarly publications, Dr. Thad Green quit a job as a university professor to start his own business.
In 1986, when burnout and boredom converged, he retired. After two years, the urge to write hit. Not the scholarly, academic publications he had authored as a management professor, but practical books to help managers and salespeople perform better. To date he has written fourteen such books, all drawing heavily on his experiences in leadership, management and sales.
In 1991 he founded Belief System Institute, a leadership consulting firm.
Management Professor
He completed a Ph. D. at the age of 26, and spent eleven years as a management professor. He had over 100 publications during his first five years in academia, but this interest soon gave way to with the business world and a curiosity about whether he could successfully practice what he was preaching to his management students.
Entrepreneur
He left a secure teaching position (full professorship with tenure) to start a small company that grew rapidly to over 200 employees. He discovered that managing and selling, like teaching and research before, came naturally for him, but after reaching his financial goals, the challenge was gone and running the company wasn’t as much fun as starting it.
Retirement
At the age of 43, Dr. Green retired. After two years, occasional thoughts of doing some writing became gentle tugs, and finally a pull he didn’t try to resist.
Business Writer
So, in January, 1989, with the purchase of a computer, his writing career began. Dr. Green’s first book, Performance and Motivation Strategies for Today’s Workforce (1992), received considerable attention in the corporate world. Thirteen other books have since been written.
Leadership Consulting
Dr. Green started a consulting firm, Belief System Institute, in 1991 and continues working with that firm today. His business partner is former corporate executive Martha Forlines.
